This Precious Gift

How would you feel if you woke up today and were handed a gift? Great way to start the day, right!?  Well, guess what, if you woke up today and are reading this then you did receive a gift! Each day is a precious gift.  Each day brings fresh grace and mercy. Each day brings new opportunity and new beginnings.

We all know that time flies by! We have to be intentional with our time and make the most of every moment.  Making the most of every moment will not look the same every day; sometimes its giving your best at work, sometimes its spending quality time with your family, sometimes its serving in your church or in the community, sometimes it’s taking time to do hobbies you enjoy, sometimes its resting and being refueled.  No matter what you are doing, it is important that you are welcoming God to be a part of each and every moment and allowing Him to direct you in how you use your time.  Each moment can equate to equaling time wasted or to equaling a life well lived.

For me personally, I have often pondered this life and pondered what I am to do with it.  I’ve found myself feeling a lack of purpose and not knowing how I should use my time.  I am glad today to say I don’t struggle with those feelings any longer.  I know that as long as I am submitted to the Lord and trusting Him, He will direct me in all things and that includes how to spend my time. I also know that even in those times when I dont feel I am doing much of anything, there’s purpose behind me being still and waiting for my next assignment.  I wake up each day willing to be used however He leads.  He has revealed to me the significance of just being willing and ready as I’ve seen even the seemingly smallest of exchanges transformed into life transformation.

I will share one example of this as you may be pondering. After church one evening a lady I didnt know shared a serious life issue she was going through and didnt know how she would overcome.  I prayed with her and, somewhere in our time together, I mentioned a small group study our church does that could help her.  Twelve weeks later I was serving at the weekend retreat that happens at the end of the small group study I had recommended to her and, to my surprise, she came up to me and said, “You’re the reason I’m here! You told me about this study.” and she described the transformation and healing she had experienced over the past several weeks. At this point I would have never thought back on the small statement I had made about the small group study, but I know God brought her to me in this moment to show me the great significance of us being willing to do even what we may see as the smallest of things.  Being willing to take a few moments to pray with someone or giving a small word of encouragement can have a life altering impact! This is just one example of this and I can tell you that even my own personal testimony of coming to know Jesus began out of a seemingly small instance of someone’s willingness to be obedient to God.  I’d bet some of you could say the same thing.

My purpose in sharing all this today is to put the question on your mind, “am I making the most of my time and am I willing to do anything God leads me to do even if it seems small to me” and to encourage you that your time is precious and each moment is a gift, not only for you but also for those who you are willing to spend your time reaching with the love of Jesus.  It’s never too late to start making the most of every moment!

The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases; His mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is Your faithfulness. “The Lord is my portion,” says my soul, “therefore I will hope in Him.” (Lamentations 3:22-24)

Be blessed!

  1. Beautifully written and oh so good! Each day is a blessing and I am continuing to learn how to hear His still small voice and remain obedient to His will. Pray each morning, “Lord, use me today”!
